Re imagined 2017 Acura MDX Debuts at New York Auto Show

The New York Intl Auto Show was home to the new and refreshed 2017 Acura MDX, and its introduction was nothing short of spectacular.

Not only were there changes - both inside and out - but a new Sport Hybrid became available, making it the third model from the luxury automaker to offer the three-motor Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) powertrain.

On the outside, the MDX showed off its diamond pentagon grille - which first made an appearance on the Precision Concept. The hood, front fascia and front fenders are all sharply sculpted, while the new LED fog lights and Jewel Eye round out the sporty SUV.

On the inside, standard features are abound and include an Electric Parking B rake with Auto Brake Hold, SiriusXM Radio 2.0 and (4) 2.5-amp USB charging ports. Added to the available Technology and Advance packages include Bi-Directional Keyless Remote Engine Start, two 20-in wheel/tire options, HD Traffic and power folding side mirrors. The Advance trim adds LED fog lights, a heated steering wheel and Surround-View Camera System with six viewing angles. Optional amenities found in the MDX Advance are 2nd row captains chairs and a center console with two extra USB ports.

Safety doesnt take a backseat, because the 2017 Acura MDX will include AcuraWatch - making it the first in its class to offer such advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies as a standard package. Included in AcuraWatch is Collision Mitigation Braking System with automatic emergency braking, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow and Road Departure Mitigation.

John Mendel, executive vic e president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc, said that, "Upping the performance pedigree of the MDX with bold styling, our exclusive Sport Hybrid powertrain and the standard application of AcuraWatch technologies that many in the industry refer to as semi-autonomous, represents a major injection of Acuras Precision Crafted Performance DNA." Mendel added, "These changes will continue to advance MDXs competitiveness and its legacy as the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time."

Acuras new MDX Sport Hybrid features a 3.0L SOHC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management, and is paired with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission with an integrated electric motor which powers the front wheels, while a Twin Motor Unit applies power to the rear wheels.
