Ford Mustang is as American as the hot dog and KFC Double Down, but for 2015 it received a makeover targeted internationally. Since 1964, the Mustang was on for a big V8, manual transmission and a solid rear axle. This rigid axle has been a point of contention for foreign automotive journalists have frequently compared the behavior of the Ford in a van, and decried the GT as a one-trick pony: the car was excellent in a straight line to a tape slide - that was about it. Thats a problem when Fords new mission is greater harmony in their range w orldwide.
While in 2015 keeps the big V8 engine, manual transmission and rear wheel drive, we have all come to know and love, it brings the first fully independent suspension at each Mustang in over 50 years. Also big news for 2015 is the resurrection of a four-cylinder engine of 2.3 liters, something we have not seen since the Mustang Fox Body early 190. In a nod to our friends in the old Blighty, a straight drive model manufactured factory is also in the works. All these changes are because this Mustang is suddenly thrust into a much larger pool of competitors
Ford can teach it some new tricks pony to compensate?
Exterior
the first thing you will notice about the new Mustang Aston Martin meets Fusion Mustang style meeting. Th e sheetmetal looks more elegant, more deliberate than ever. While 2014 was the caricature air from some angles, the 6th generation Stang does not seem to have a bad angle to find. Clearly, Ford has not only spent more time styling their new 2-door, but also spend more on the metal stamping we have more curves and angles providing visual interest. The quarter panel before, for example, rises, then return curves down to meet the hood panel, giving the front of the Mustang something of a "proto-end." We HYPED that 2016 will bring flashing integrated into the hood vents (visible by the driver) in some trims.
All Mustang models now come standard with HID headlights, a nice touch in a segment generally lacks modern lighting. at the rear, the sequential turn signals are now made from LED strips within large vertical plastic housings with deep valleys between the lamp modules. the look is striking, but proved harder to clean than I had envisioned.
the sleek profile belies the withdrawal of the sixth generation of about two inches over the outgoing model outside. the loss of length allows the Mustang slightly international markets where Ford is considered a great two doors. In terms of comparison, the Mustang is almost a foot longer than the BMW M235i w e recently reviewed, about the same size as a 435i and a foot shorter than a Dodge Challenger. The main reason for the long body, of course, is the massive engine compartment designed to accommodate larger engines longitudinally.
There was a lot of speculation about Ford right sizing program. Is a weight reduction to be part of the package? The answer is no, the Mustang has actually gained some weight in this generation. Contrary to the rampant "weightgate" speculation earlier, the curb weight is just 20 to 80 pounds, depending on how you compare a 2014 base trim for 2015.
inside
the only area that has not received as much attention is inside. The style is fresh and instantly recognizable as a Mustang, but we only get a gradual improvement in the feeling of the parties. There is still much lower hard plastic inside, including the console and areas where your knee and leg are likely to rest center. (Remember that the Mustang starts under $ 24,000.) The new steering wheel is loaded with buttons, but fortunately I found the intuitive layout. thick rimmed steering wheels lovers will be disappointed that the bar is not thicker than the Ford Edge we recently tested.
When looking at the Mustang park ed next to a BMW 2-Series, you might assume Ford would be more inside. You would be wrong. The Mustang and 2016 Camaro have almost the same amount of front and rear seat leg room than the baby Bimmer, with the Mustang actually be slightly smaller inside. This has mainly to do with the position of the engine in the Mustang and the size of the engine bay making it the longest nose to give it a proportion similar to a British sports coupe. Meanwhile, BMW pushes the engine a little further back making the overall package more compact. On the upside, the Mustang is more room for the feet which makes it more comfortable for people with bigger feet.
Our tester had the seat package near $ 1,0 Recaro option. If track your car regularly, and need the aggressive strengthening and are about my size or smaller, to get them. Everyone should avoid completely. The standard seats are softer and more comfortable, they offer a more lumbar support and high-end trim the Mustang would normally get related memory power seats, adjustable lumbar support and heating and ventilation. All these characteristics are given for the Recago logo, and its just not a good trade. A q uick look in a given distributor GT without the Recaro seats, but with the Ensemble Performance, confirmed that the firmer suspension is easier to live with if you get the base seats. The difference is more pronounced when considering the Mustang comes with very comfortable seats in all other versions, beating the current Camaro and Challenger easily, and are actually quite competitive with standard seats in the 2-Series, series 4 and Lexus RC.
hop in the back and you remember the Mustang is described as " 2 + 2 cut" where the latter figure is a little smaller than the first. Although not as tight as a Jaguar XK, the rear seat must be reserved for small children or your friends bowl. with the seat adjusted for my driver comfortably under 6 feet, there was a gap of between 3 inches my seat back and bottom cushion of the rear seat. (I prefer a vertical position when driving a manual.) convertible buyers will be happy to know that the rear free spa ce actually increases if you have chosen the top cloth. at 13.5 cubic feet, the trunk of the Mustang is also similar in size to the BMW 2-Series, Ford uses but fortunately concealed hinges to make the most of the trunk. You should know that the speakers ShakerPro option package consumes a little more than a cubic foot of space.
Infotainment
Our pony car was Ford MyFord Touch infotainment system option. This software should be replaced in 2016 by the completely redesigned Ford SYNC3 system. MFT is one of the most maligned infotainment systems on the market, but it is also one of the most feature rich. Even in 2015, there are still broad brands that do not offer voice control of your music library USB connected. At this point, Ford has addressed most of the major issues that hit MFT, except for speed. Interact with the touch screen requires patience screen changes are much slower than alternatives Hyundai, Chrysler and GM. SYNC includes an integrated telematics system that reports on the health of vehicles emails, allows you to call a concierge, request emergency assistance and know when your air bags are gone. However, this system depends on a Bluetooth phone coupled to actually make the calls -. So if you forget your phone and you get into an acciden t, the car can not dial using
Our tester included the optional navigation software and ShakerPro level branded speaker system superior. The 12-speaker system uses a trunk mounted subwoofer and central speaker on the dashboard and a 9-channel amplifier 550 watts. The system is certainly in tune with a significant bass punch, but overall, it is still well balanced. He had no problem rocking my album Vanilla Ice all the way to A1A Beachfront Avenue.

The major new engine for 2015 n t the 3.7-liter V-6 has lost some ponies, or even vanilla five-point-oh is always available; it is that we have the first four-cylinder Mustang in a while. To make room for the new plant EcoBoost, Ford-tuned V6 slightly to 300 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 4000. This means that, unlike the Camaro, the four-cylinder is one, not the base engine upgrade . Tick ââthe box EcoBoost gives you 310 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and a lesser huge 320 lb-ft at a low 3,000 rpm. But I am here to talk about what separates this American among European and Asian options. Five. Point. Oh. Revving to 7,000 rpm and with VVT dual independent valves, only modern omission Coyote V-8 with direct injection. Power reac hes 435 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 400 lb-ft at 4250 rpm. (The recently announced 5.2-liter V-8 Shelby is a perfect example of naturally aspirated engine designs vs turbo engine design. The 2016 Shelby GT350 bump power 91 horsepower, but torque of 29 lb-only ft. compared to the twin-turbo German V8, power is similar, but the couple is much lower.)
Unusual in 2015, even in performance car, your choice manual or automatic transmissions on all models (in 2016, the Shelby will only manual) and your choice not to interfere with the option groups. This means you can get the EcoBoost and GT Mustangs with radar cruise control, all the goodies and still get the 6-speed stick. ( There have been complaints about the manual transmission Getrag MT82, but I did not experience an unusual changes felt during my week. Be sure to let us know if you have had a problem with yours in the comment section below. There was a little buzz on the forum "thunks and clunks" .) also a little unusual today is the option of more axle ratios back. For those who do not know, axle ratios are the "link" end of the string for your transmission. Transmission 3.65: 1 first gear ratio is multiplied by the rear axle you have chosen - 3.31, 3.55 and 3.73 - for the total effective ratio of 12: 1, 12.9: 1, or 13.6: 1. (All three reports are available EcoBoost model but just 3.55 and 3.73 are offered in the GT). This has a significant impact on the acceleration and fuel economy as the sixth gear ratios have the same variance. The available axle ratios are the reason why fuel economy has dropped EPA test the V-6, as Ford is offering 2.73: 1 axle back in the V-6 as they did in 2014 . This means that the V-6 base 2015 is much peppier but MPGs give two stages. This is where the steps of the EcoBoost model with 31 or 32 mpg combined (depending on transmission) despite giving you more power, more torque and a ratio of more aggressive rear deck that the base 2014 V-6. On the downsi de, power and economy figures for the 5.0 and 2.3 are based on premium unleaded.

there More than twenty years, I was learning to drive on the 1988 2.3-liter four Mustang LX cylinders of my neighbor with a clutch shot. My how times have changed. At the time 300 horsepower was a pipe dream, 6.3 seconds 0-60 time of GT was rad maximum and 32 mpg Mustang was also likely that a blue unicorn. Even there ten years ago, the idea that the Mustang would be serious competition for imports was wishful thinking, but the sixth-generation pony offers 300 horsepower standard, the model midrange gets over 30 mpg on the highway, and each version is faster to 60 than it was in 1988. combined with a more refined and capable suspension, this is the unicorn.
rear end of the Mustang in 2014 shocked the broken pavement and was heavy in the corners. The 2015 feels composed and much lighter in comparison, despite actually being heavier. The GT still feels a bit before heavy in the corners, no surprise with a big V8 under the hood, but the EcoBoost model feels much better balanced. Thank you to the selection of gears and tires, all versions are happy when pushed tail. Next year brings a new Camaro with a derivative Cadillac ATS chassis and suspension, which bodes very well for the brand and bowtie. However, this is 2015 and the current Camaro is a notch behind the outgoing Mustang. Absolute Handling is obviously a factor in the choice of tires, and ours was equipped with rubber Pirelli PZero summer option in a staggered 255 / 40R19 front, 275 / 40R19 rear configuration. In an interesting twist, the suspension is firm enough but there is more body roll than you expect.
If you are a traditionalist, fear not. The Mustang, especially our tester GT, is still on the good price performance straight. The V-6 will sprint to 60 in 5.8 seconds, the turbo 5.6 will, and our GT in a quick 4.6 seconds with launch control activated and the 6-speed manual. A nice touch: Unlike many cars out there with launch control, Ford is simple crazy. Once activated on the LCD screen between the speedometer and tachometer. it remains on. Period. This means you need not worry about playing with menus; you just floor, release the clutch and let the nanny do their thing. The car keeps the setting even across ignition cycles. You can improve things by double-clicking the traction control button and activating the Sport mode that allows a little more action in the rear. (Note: Ford said the two syst ems should be used only on the track Sure ... ). Sure, youve probably also heard of the clever line Ford lock function that allows perfect burnouts each time without wearing your rear brake pads.
7000 rpm redline WG means that the Stang sings like a diet high European sports coupe over a Camaro or Challenger. Since all the ponies come trotting at 6,500 rpm, youll spend a lot of time to these heights. The good news is through mapping of the accelerator and the general character of the 2015, it revs easily, happily and sound good while doing it.
Thanks to the electric power steering, the Mustang wheel is as numb as most competitors, while BMW and Nissan are able to transmit more road feel in M235i and 370Z. Jump Performance Pack makes it passable GT on a daily basis in terms of suspension tuning, and in this form the body roll seems well balanced with the spring firmness. The downside to jump pack is reduced handle. If I were shopping in this segment, Id probably skip the package and use the money to share in a little sticky rubber. . If you get the package, I suggest some stiffer stabilizer bars
Ford set the base price for 2015 low - very low. At $ 23.800, the Mustang and Camaro undermines the Genesis Coupe by $ 3000 and the 3 70Z of nearly $ 6,000. This means that for the price of the base 2.0-liter, 275 horsepower 2016 Camaro or the Genesis Coupe V-6, you could get a 2.3-liter EcoBoost Stang with an option or two. A base Z will cost more than a well-equipped V-6 Ford or only about $ 2,500 less than the Mustang GT. At $ 32.850, the BMW 228i is a huge $ 7,550 more than the EcoBoost model more powerful and M235i is $ 11,850 more than a Mustang GT. Why this focus on the M235i? Because the Mustang actually reminded me a lot of the little BMW. The Mustang finally feels light and agile, and at the same time, the M235i feels much larger than the small BMW of the past. While the BMW feels more refined, the delta has never been smaller. With previous generations, one could argue that more refinement of the BMW was worth $ 10,000. With this generation, I would not pay over $ 1000 for extra sensation in the BMW. This is a problem because for the M235i as quick as our $ 45,470 tester, you need to add a nd Automatic 8-speed four-wheel drive, which both would make it less fun. Better in the rain, but less fun. The added material also makes the M235i xDrive tip the scales at 3,695 pounds, only 10 pounds lighter than the Ford, and many more. Although the suspension of the BMW is better placed and more stable, if the same shod, the Mustang will be right on the bumper of the 2-Series.
The perfect Mustang? No, I want the interior was a bit more comfortable and automatic transmission needs a little more speed to match the competition. Hyundai, BMW, GM and Chrysler went 8-speed and even Nissan is superior to 7 cog in the 370Z. This means there is still a toll to pay to select automatic, while slushboxes competition promises better fuel economy and better acceleration. Still, Ford is true that the Mustang has always promised performance at a reasonable price. The great news is that these come with reasonable prices surprisingly few comp romises and it is quite possible to consider the Mustang as an alternative value to a German coupe. Comparing a pony car in a compact coupe German used to be ridiculous, but this pony is a blue unicorn has learned a few tricks.
